Hanging Rock
It is a unique geological structure
in the centre of Victoria, Australia.
Ancient volcano,
718 metres above sea level
( 105 metres above the plain )
Located in two small states, Newham and Huskit.
On the plain between,
about 70 kilometres northwest of Melbourne.
The Macedon ranges.
The first residents of this place,
Dja Dja Wurrung, Woi Wurrung
and Taungurung.
At the end of the 20th century,
the area was famous for the background of Joan Lindsay's novel
《 Hanging Rock Picnic 》
《 Picnic at Hanging Rock 》also is
a 1975 Australian mystery film
produced by Hal and Jim McElroy,
directed by Peter Weir.
It was adapted by Cliff Green
from the 1967 novel of the same name by Joan Lindsay.
The suspended rock was 6.25 million years ago.
The rigid magma escaped from the vent and froze on the spot.
People think that this is a volcanic plug.
But this is not the case.
There are two other sources nearby,
which are formed at the same time.
When the magma of the suspended rock cools and shrinks,
it split into rough columns.
With the passage of time, change,
and form today's scene.
The three sources show the mechanism of plate structure. When the Australian plate moved north to East Asia 27 million years,
it passed through a volcanic hotspot.
Suspended rock contains many unique rock structures, including itself.
